Trip Host: Jim Melnick and Mike Scott of The Avid Angler

The Avid Angler is pleased to announce two exciting new adventures for October 2008 - four days of guided flyfishing in the Florida Everglades for snook, redfish, speckled trout, jacks, tarpon, and other species. This is backcountry and coastal flyfising in the lakes, rivers, creeks, and gulf coast flats of the Everglades National Park. Two Avid Angler staff members fished the Everglades last November and enjoyed it so much that we have set these trips up for our customers to enjoy.

Each trip is one day of travel each way and four days fishing out of Everglades City on Florida's Gulf Coast. You will fly to Ft. Lauderdale and travel with the group by van from there to Everglades City. Lodging (double occupancy) will be at the beautiful Ivey House Inn ( http://www.iveyhouse.com/inn.htm ) in Everglades City.

You and another fly fisher will fish from a flats skiff with an experienced Everglades guide. Fishing may be in a backcountry lake, a mangrove creek, a coastal river mouth, or on the coastal flat. You will be using 8wt -- 9wt rods for most species, and 10wt -- 12 wt equipment for tarpon and other larger fish. Flies will be provided by the guides.

In addition to the great fishing, you will have ample opportunities to view and photograph the beautiful scenery and many forms of wildlife living in Everglades National Park. Each bend in the river or creek typically holds a new surprise and photo op!
