Tying Steelhead Flies, with Dec Hogan and Marty Howard

"Marty and I are ambitious with this one. Each of us will be tying two flies for our tie-along class. Yes, that's four flies! You will learn techniques that can be applied to an infinite number of steelhead flies during the 3-hour session. Each of us will be tying a standard classic style fly and a more contemporary style of wiggly critter. As a gift of gratitude for signing up in such short notice, Marty and I want you to have our 2-disc 4-hour DVD Steelhead Flies. It's yours to keep, learn from, and enjoy. Hope to see you there!" - Dec Hogan

Join us here the Monday after the Fly Fishing Show for a hands-on tying clinic with one of the masters. Phil Rowley has developed numerous flies and techniques that he will share with you in class.

Phil on his tying seminar, "The sport of fly-fishing is made up of many factors. Once of the most important and interesting is the comprehensive understanding of what organisms' trout feed upon. This program details the many organisms that are available to trout in stillwaters and links their unique characteristics to the vise, the foundation principle for my book, Fly Patterns for Stillwaters (available at The Avid Angler). Discussion points include what materials work best and why, key features and triggers along with a host of other tips. This program provides the stillwater fly fisher and tyer with the bridge between natural and imitation."

We're hosting April Vokey from Fly Gal Ventures in British Columbia for a fun and easy-going class aimed at tying big, gnarly winter flies. April will guide us through some of the finer points of tying patterns that make steelhead go nuts no matter where they swim!

From April's site, "One of the great things about fishing for B.C.'s wild steelhead are the animated and lively flies that seem to attract these feisty fish so regularly." Students are required to bring their own tools, however, all materials will be provided.
Gather around our comfortable tying table and observe, evaluate and conquer every tying step as April walks each student through the process.
